Code of Ethics

Humbly recognizing the badge of my office as a symbol of public faith, I accept it as a public trust to be held so long as I am true to the honorable profession of law enforcement.

I fully recognize my fundamental duty to service mankind; to safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation, and the peaceful against violence or disorder; and to respect the constitutional rights of all people to liberty, equality and justice. I do vow that I will always accept the obligation in connection with my assignments to report facts and testify without bias and to consider the information coming to my attention by virtue of my position as a sacred trust, to be used solely for official purposes. I shall always strive to acquit the innocent and convict the guilty. I will enforce the law courteously and appropriately without fear of favor, malice or ill-will, never employing unnecessary force or violence and never accepting gratuities.

I will keep my private life untainted as an example to all; maintain courageous calmness in the face of danger, scorn or ridicule; develop self-restraint; and be constantly mindful of the welfare of others.

I will constantly strive to achieve these objectives and ideals, dedicating myself before God to the law enforcement profession and the welfare of the people of Gulf County.
